About

        Abe and Autumn Shelton

We were married on May 12th, 2012 in front of a great group of family and friends. And went on a 16 month honeymoon around the Pacific. We started in Western Australia with 12 weeks of camping, focusing on freediving/spearfishing and surfing, enjoying quality time with friends who we’re there for the same reasons. Then we took a quick plane ride over to Bali & Java, Indonesia for a month in the tropics with our good friends. After that it was a long ride across the Pacific to Chile where we caught another flight to Quito, Ecuador. From there we explored the Galapagos Islands meeting hundreds of different animals up close and personal and free diving in an unchanged gem. Another quick jump back to the mainland and straight up to 16,000 feet to see snow on the equator along Cotopaxi. Now its bus time, all the way to the coast, starting in Atacames, Ecuador and down to Lima, Peru, making new friends along the way.  From there it was a quick flight to Cuzco and the Sacred Valley, where we explored the city and hiked the Inca trail to Machu Picchu.  Christmas time was approaching so we flew down to Santiago, Chile to meet up with Autumn’s mom to explore the city, wine country and Vina del Mar/Valparaiso for the best NYE firework show ever!  After saying goodbye to mom, we headed south to Patagonia, where we hiked the incredible Fitz Roy Range in Argentina and Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. We also sat and watched in awe as the giant ice chunks fell from the mighty and still growing, Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina. Abe got a few surfs in at Punta Lobos in Pichilemu, Chile and off we went for three glorious weeks in Mexico with Abe’s parents.  Spent a few days exploring Panama City and two weeks freediving, drinking rum and smoking cigars in the Caribbean.  Flew all the way back to Chile, but this time we spent two weeks in the north hoping to catch a few big waves in Arica and Iquique. Our South American adventures ended in Buenos Aires, Argentina meeting up with a couple friends from home to explore the very cool european-like city and Iguazu Falls over two and half weeks.  Then comes the long flight back to Australia where we visited friends around Sydney, Coffs Harbour, Lennox Head, and the Gold Coast.  After 5 weeks of cruising around we headed back to Western Australia to camp, freedive, spearfish and surf for another 16 weeks before returning home to Santa Barbara, California in September 2013.  We feel its a good way to start a marriage, how about you?  We are now living in a beautiful home overlooking the city, ocean and islands of Santa Barbara searching for the perfect careers that allow us to do everything that we love.

We met in 1996 at a Sunburst Commune Reunion, of which our parents and Abe were apart of in the 70’s and early 80’s. From that moment we both knew there was something special about the other. We shared a kiss, but just remained friends until 12 years later when we reconnected again and instantly started dating. We traveled around Australia and SE Asia together for a year solidifying our relationship and working out those travel kinks. Then married 2 years after we returned home, which gave us plenty of time to save for another big trip/honeymoon.

Abe was born on March 13,1978 in Santa Barbara, California and Autumn on August 31st, 1980 in Carpinteria, California. Both graduated from UC Santa Barbara, Abe majoring in Geography and Spanish and Autumn majoring in Psychology with a minor in Italian. Abe is fluent in Spanish and Autumn has a solid base in Italian and is learning Spanish.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We have both travelled all around the globe since our late teens soaking up every new culture, adventure and friendships we encounter along the way. Traveling is who we are. We have a zest for life, staying active, trying local food and drinks and meeting new people. Abe has been surfing since he was 12 and loves dropping into waves that most shy away from. Abe showed Autumn the incredible world of freediving and spearfishing on their one year trip around Australia and Asia in 2009/2010 and she was hooked. Autumn also has a love for hiking and technical trek’s. She has trekked many mountains and plains with her best friend/mom such as Half Dome, Mt Whitney, and Mt Shasta in California, the Himalayas in Bhutan, and the Tzavo River in Kenya.

The world is full of adventure, seek it out!
